Double Cove: A Weekend Retreat with a Fresh Twist

Transforming a Seaside Apartment into a Refined and Inviting Getaway

Inspired by the ritual of checking into a hotel, renowned designer Chi Ming Danny Chiu created Double Cove, a private residence that offers a unique and refreshing experience for its occupants. With a focus on modern luxury and a desire to strike a balance between urban life and resort living, this design is a testament to the power of thoughtful interior design.

One of the standout features of Double Cove is its sense of freshness. The client's request for a weekend retreat, coupled with a desire for a dynamic and inviting interior, led to the creation of a space that allows the multi-generational family to escape the bustling city life. Every corner of the residence holds something unexpected, ensuring that each visit is filled with delightful surprises.

The design of Double Cove takes full advantage of the panoramic ocean views and surrounding greenery, providing an ideal setting for relaxation and rejuvenation. The interiors are carefully curated to minimize distractions, with a precise palette of beige and light grey creating a serene atmosphere. Bronze steel trimmings and statement lighting fixtures add touches of luxury, while paintings with illuminating sea wave motifs echo the natural surroundings and far-reaching views.

Spanning approximately 1379 square feet, Double Cove follows a unique concept of "first come, first served." There are no fixed bedrooms, allowing occupants to freely choose their favorite rooms based on their mood and preference for a particular date and time. In addition to the sleeping quarters, the layout provides various options for dining, including a sitting area, living space, and balcony. A recreation area for playing Mahjong adds an extra touch of leisure.

The heart of Double Cove is the spacious shared space, which includes a sitting area, living area, dining space, semi-open kitchen, and balcony. This refined yet inviting communal space serves as the central point for socializing, entertaining, and gathering. It strikes a perfect balance between functionality and aesthetics, creating a harmonious environment for the entire family.

Double Cove was brought to life in Wu Kai Ha, Hong Kong, with the project starting in May 2018 and finishing in January 2019. The design was meticulously researched and tailored to the needs of the multi-generational family, ensuring that it met their desire for a weekend retreat. The result is an inviting and flexible space that seamlessly combines comfort and style.

Double Cove has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020. This prestigious award celebrates designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving quality of life. Double Cove is a testament to the power of thoughtful design in creating a space that truly enhances the lives of its occupants.
